Activities and Community Service

Jack & Jill Austin Chapter children are divided into age/grade groups (Tots, Yearlings, Vogues & Esquires, Betwixt & Between and Guys & Dolls), and participate learning and community service activities together.

Program Activities for all Grade Groups and Teens:

September Activity
Jack & Jill Day/Carol Robertson Day
Chapter-wide activity. Chapter members pay tribute to Carol Robertson, renew relationships with fellow Austin chapter Jack & Jill families, and donate children’s books to support libraries in low-income schools in Austin IDD to support early childhood literacy.

October Activity
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math activity for the children. Grades 7 - 12 will complete the leadership module.

November Activity
Etiquette Experience
Fun-filled afternoon learning about etiquette through table manners and socializing.

December Activity
Community Service/Social Activity
Jack & Jill members will meet to discuss the importance of sharing, caring, and giving. The children will place a wrapped gift/toy under a Christmas tree for delivery to the Austin Boys and Girls Club.

January Activity
MLK March - National Day of Service
The march will be a Chapter-wide event. Members will meet at the State Capitol to march to Huston-Tillotson University campus to attend the MLK Festival

February Activity
Black History Program
Children will participate in our Black History Program by being actors, stage-hands, producers and ushers of a play scripted by a Jack & Jill mother.

Children’s Cluster
South Central Region Legislative Activity will occur where children will conduct a letter-writing campaign. Letters will be sent to Education Committee and Child Advocacy Legislature.

Jack & Jill Fitness Day
Children ages 2 - 12 will participate in a Jack & Jill Fitness Day event.

May Activity
Black Family Day
Children will attend the annual Black Family Day picnic and learn about HBCUs and the many network and career opportunities associated with attending them. They will participate in the J&J Rites of Passage Ritual, as well as hear from J&J graduates of HBCUs, while having our end-of-year fellowship/celebration and picnic.
